PLASTER MOULDMAKING COURSE MAKE A DROP OUT MOULD FOR SLIP CASTING CERAMICS

During this two day course, you will learn about the various kinds of plaster moulds used for shaping clay and create your own one-piece drop out mould for slip casting. You will make a plaster bowl or cylinder shaped cup model with a spare during the first session and this will be used to form the slip casting mould (including a reservoir ring).

The course offers an insight into the key considerations in planning and creating a mould, including understanding how a slip cast form will be released from a mould.  You will develop a deeper technical understanding of plaster - its properties and how to calculate quantities and to best mix, pour and shape it to suit different projects.

To help you become more familiar with mixing and shaping plaster, one exercise during the first session will be to make a plaster bat - a useful tool that can be taken away to use for a range of clay processes, including slab work, wedging, and recycling clay. Step by step, you will gain confidence when working with the material and leave the course able to work with plaster independently.

While the course covers a significant amount of technical material, it is carefully structured and presented in bite-sized, accessible stages.

People with any level of experience are welcome to join. I am able to customise the workshop for those with some plaster experience wishing to refresh or refine their skills.

Please bring your own apron and hand towel to protect your clothes. All other tools and materials are provided.
